Tucson Spinal Decompression Therapy

Tucson non-surgical spinal decompressionDr. Conlee sees a lot of back pain patients in our busy Tucson chiropractic office. Many of our patients have some form of spinal issue that is causing them pain and discomfort. Fortunately, Dr. Conlee finds that spinal decompression treatment is a great way to help these folks.

What is Spinal Decompression and How Can it Help Me?

Non-surgical spinal decompression is a treatment approach that takes all of the positive benefits that one normally gets from chiropractic, traction, physiotherapy, exercise therapy, and myofascial therapy and merges them all into one.

The goal of this technique is to keep you away from the surgeon's knife, and that is precisely what it's done for a number of people, as it has a reported 85% success rate.

A few of the issues spinal decompression helps with include generalized back pain, sciatic nerve pain, herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, compression fractures, and joint pain.

Spinal decompression works by reversing the effects of wear, tear, and gravity that compresses the intervertebral discs in your spine. The video below shows how it works to reduce stress on your back and helps lessen pain and disability.

Chiropractic Can Decrease Shoulder Pain

Tucson shoulder pain treatment and recoveryAccording to research, roughly 2-5 percent of the population will suffer from painful disorders like frozen shoulder syndrome at some point in their lives. That makes shoulder-related pain a common occurrence and one that Dr. Conlee sees in our Tucson practice on a regular basis.

Research Supports Chiropractic Helps With Shoulder Pain

Generally speaking, this condition is more common for people in their 40s, 50s, and 60s, and it tends to affect women more frequently than men. While ice, heat, and gentle stretches can often times help alleviate the discomfort, so too can chiropractic.

For instance, a study published in the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine looked at 50 patients with frozen shoulder who were given chiropractic care. The length of care varied from 11 days to 51 days, with 28 days being the average.

The doctors found that almost all of the patients fared very well with chiropractic care. Here are the results:

8 of the subjects reported 50-75 percent improvement
25 indicated improvement ranging from 75- 90 percent
1 participant had complete resolution of their frozen shoulder pain

Only one patient reported an improvement of 50 percent or less, so studies like this show just how effective chiropractic can be when it comes to decreasing shoulder pain and improving quality of life.

Chiropractic Better for Sciatica Than Surgery

Dr. Conlee works with countless sciatica patients here in our Tucson office, and quite a few of these men and women were concerned that they might need surgery to alleviate their pain. The latest research indicates that many people don't require surgery for this common problem, and that chiropractic is more successful at resolving sciatic nerve pain.

A typical surgery for sciatica is microdiscectomy, and in a 2010 study, physicians looked at 80 patients with sciatica who were referred for this operation.

Forty patients were then randomly placed in one of two groups. The first group received surgical microdiscectomy and the second group was given chiropractic care.

Both groups got better; however, no apparent difference in results was reported one year post-treatment between either group. Furthermore, roughly 60% of the participating patients who could not find relief from any other treatment approach "benefited from spinal manipulation to the same degree as if they underwent surgical intervention."

Simply put, chiropractic provided the same positive benefits as surgery without needing to go through the increased levels of surgery-based pain or suffer through lengthy recovery times often associated with that type of treatment method. Plus, you also don't run the risks affiliated with surgical microdiscectomy, such as nerve root damage, bowel or bladder incontinence, bleeding, or infection.

Surgery ought to be the last resort for sciatica pain. If you live in Tucson and you're experiencing back pain or sciatica, give Dr. Conlee a call today at (520) 322-6161. We'll help identify the origin of your pain and work hard to get you relief.

Tucson Back Pain and Pregnancy Care

Tucson chiropractor

While many women automatically assume that pregnancy and back pain go hand in hand, they are often pleasantly surprised when they learn that this is not necessarily the case. In fact, chiropractic care can often help relieve persistant back pain for pregnant women by as much as 85 percent.

Research Proves Chiropractic Helps With Back Pain and Pregnancy

We've worked with many pregnant women suffering from back pain in our Tucson office.

One piece of research published in Chiropractic & Manual Therapies involved 115 women who were pregnant (most of which were in their third trimester) and presented with pain in their low back, pelvic area, or both. Data was gathered prior to the study, as well as one week, one month, three months, and one year after treatment commenced. At each subsequent point in time, the participants were asked to rate their level of pain based on a 7-point scale to determine whether it was better, worse, or stayed the same. The results?

52% reported that their pain was better after one week of chiropractic treatment. After one month, that amount jumped up to 70 percent, climbing even more to 85 percent showing improvement at the three month mark. Improvement was still reported at six months post-treatment, which was generally after childbirth, and continued to the final data collection one year after treatment commenced.

There are also many additional advantages of chiropractic care during pregnancy. Not only does it effectively relieve back pain, but it does it in a completely natural and non-invasive way. This means that you don't have to worry about taking any medications or undergoing any type of treatment that could potentially harm your unborn child.

Tucson Chiropractic Auto Accident Treatment

Tucson auto injury recovery and treatment by Dr. ConleeEvery year, there are millions of car crashes in the world, and a significant number of people get injured in a crash. Although most collisions are "minor," chronic neck and back pain are still frequent health problems. The good news is that chiropractic is a fantastic way to treat these kinds of injuries.

We've helped many auto injury patients in our Tucson office, and Dr. Conlee has been helping people with these types of problems since 1990. During a car accident, your body is exposed to violent forces that it simply wasn't built to handle. These forces put strain and stress on your neck, shoulder, and back, and can result in damage to the ligaments that hold your spine together. A crash can trigger a vast array of pain symptoms.

A ligament sprain in the neck can result in pain, swelling, and radicular problems in the arm and hand. Chiropractic care works well for these types of problems, because chiropractic concentrates on restoring the healthy function and flexibility of the injured areas.

Let's see why neck pain is frequently experienced after an auto injury and see how your chiropractor can help you heal. Let's look at the root cause of neck pain after an accident and see how chiropractic can help. The key to recovering from neck pain caused by a crash is to understand the root cause of the problem and how chiropractic care can help. Chiropractic care can be very helpful for neck pain symptoms after a crash. Let's examine what causes neck pain and why chiropractic works. Chiropractic care is an effective way to treat neck pain. Let's look at how neck pain is caused by a crash and how Dr. Conlee can help you.

It's not surprising that neck pain is the most common problem experienced after a crash. Even in a collision, your head is rapidly thrown back and forth, so it's not surprising that neck pain is the most common symptom from this type of injury. Your neck is subjected to very high stresses and strains during a car crash, so it's not surprising that neck pain is so common from this type of injury. During even a low velocity wreck, your head is subjected to very rapid acceleration. In such collisions, a head that normally weighs about 10 pounds can suddenly weigh 80 or more pounds. This force exerts a severe strain on the tissues of the neck. The bones of your spine are held together with strong bands of tissue called ligaments, and these ligaments provide stability for your neck. These ligaments can be sprained during a car crash, just as your ankle ligaments can be sprained. A sprain means that the ligament is stretched or torn.

When you experience a sprained ligament, the damaged area gets swollen and sore, and that's what happens after a car crash. Chiropractic helps by increasing movement in the injured area, which helps the tissues heal and helps decrease scar tissue.

Thoracic Outlet Syndrome and Car Accidents

Thoracic Outlet Syndrome is a common symptom after a car crash, and it's something that Dr. Conlee sees frequently in our Tucson office. Why is thoracic outlet syndrome such a common symptom after an auto collision? How can chiropractic care help you heal?

The thoracic outlet is a bundle of blood vessels and nerves that travel through your neck and shoulder to your arm. These nerves and blood vessels don't have a lot of room, so they travel under and through the strong bands of muscles that support your head.

In a collision, these muscle groups can be stretched and strained. If damaged, the muscles become inflamed and tender, and they can develop scar tissue which restricts motion and puts stress on the tissues of the thoracic outlet. Pressure on the nerves can cause tingling or pins and needles in the shoulder, elbow and even the hand. Pressure on the blood vessels can also cause problems in the arm.

Back Pain and Auto Injury

If you are dealing with back pain after an auto injury, don't despair. Dr. Conlee sees this type of problem very often in our Tucson office. Let's see why back pain is commonly experienced after a car crash and see how chiropractic care can help you recover.

During a rear-end auto collision, your car and car seat are quickly accelerated forward against your torso. Since car seats don't perfectly align with the curvature of your back, the car seat can put inconsistent force on your back. This can cause some of your spinal vertebrae to move in one direction while an adjacent vertebrae might move in another direction. This differential motion can sprain or strain the structures that hold your spine together. This type of injury can cause chronic back pain if not treated promptly. Fortunately, chiropractic is one of the most effective ways to treat back pain.

Dr. Conlee has been helping patients in Tucson since 1990, so we know what you're suffering from. We're here to help you, too. First, we'll do a careful examination to determine the root cause of your problem, and then decide how to restore your body's natural functioning. Ready to make an appointment? Chiropractic Successful for Neck Pain

Tucson chiropractic neck pain treatmentAccording to The American Academy of Pain Medicine, more Americans suffer with chronic pain than diabetes, coronary heart disease, stroke, and cancer combined. Furthermore, neck pain is the third most documented type of pain, beat out only by back pain and headaches.

As a result, a lot of patients come to our Tucson office looking for neck pain care, and Dr. Conlee has helped many of them find relief. This is a smart choice, as some studies have shown that over 90% of neck pain patients get relief with chiropractic.

Studies Confirm Chiropractic Effective for Neck Pain

A report published in The Journal of Orthopaedic and Sports Physical Therapy involved 64 individuals who were suffering with neck pain. Approximately half were placed in an experimental group and the other half were assigned to a comparison group. Both received chiropractic adjustments of the neck as well as a home exercise program, while the experimental group also received adjustments of the thoracic spine.

Information was collected before treatment began and one week post-treatment. The authors found that 94% of the experimental group claimed "significantly greater improvements" in regard to pain and disability in their neck symptoms. Just 35% of the individuals who received neck adjustments showed the same level of improvement, illustrating that looking at the entire spine is a critical part of restoring the body's normal function.

Yet another study posted in Physical Therapy involved 60 adults who reported dealing with neck pain. Each individual was randomly allocated to one of two groups--thoracic spine thrust manipulation or non-thrust manipulation--with examinations occurring two and four days after the adjustments.

The investigators found that the study patients who received the thrust manipulations (the same adjustments that provided such positive results in the first report) "experienced greater reductions in disability" than the group that received the non-thrust adjustments. Their pain was lower as well, which shows that this type of technique offers many benefits.

Help After Failed Neck Surgery

One study also found the same type of positive outcomes after thoracic adjustments in a patient who had a failed neck surgical procedure. This particular case involved a 46-year-old woman who had recently had neck surgery but still reported neck pain, headaches, pain in her elbow, and muscle fatigue.

The woman reported reduced pain in her neck and lower headache intensity, immediately after the first chiropractic adjustments. After six weeks of care, which involved chiropractic, exercise, and patient education, the patient still rated her pain at a zero on a scale of 1 to 10. Her neck disability improved as well, with a rating score that represented that it was a "great deal better."

It is studies like these that substantiate the advantages of chiropractic care, even if you've already attempted medical procedures that didn't provide relief. So, if you are dealing with neck discomfort and would like to find a solution that has a high success rate, try chiropractic. It may just be the relief you're looking for.

Chiropractic Helps Migraine

Tucson natural migraine treatment by Dr. ConleeWith the Migraine Research Foundation reporting that migraines affect 38 million adults and children in the U.S. (more than asthma and diabetes put together), it's not surprising that Dr. Conlee treats a lot of headache sufferers in our Tucson office. Although some folks try to relieve migraine pain with medications, chiropractic is a terrific, all-natural approach that often provides positive results.

Research Supports Chiropractic Care Helps With Migraines

For instance, one report published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics involved 127 people ranging in age from 10 to 70-years-old who struggled with regular (at least monthly) headaches. Each subject engaged in up to 16 chiropractic sessions. The subjects noted that their headache frequency, duration, and disability two months before the treatments began, during the duration of the sessions (which was two months), and two months post-treatment.

What the investigators discovered is that chiropractic adjustments reduced the frequency, duration, and disability of the migraine headaches when compared with the control subjects who didn't receive chiropractic. In addition, this enabled them to take less medication for the pain, offering them an all-natural answer for a chronic problem.

Another report found that a combination of chiropractic and neck massage reduced migraine pain almost 68%.

If you have migraine headache pain and are looking for help, call Dr. Conlee today and request an appointment in our Tucson chiropractic office. We'll do what we can to help you become pain-free!
